What's with all the trees? I get asked this a lot. My fascination with trees has been a long pursued interest. Being one of the oldest living life forms on Earth, trees have an incredible capacity for adaptability and durability. They have come to hold a form of spiritual and philosophical value for me. My subject matter is a combination of my memory of observed landscapes, mostly from the numerous long road trips I take every year around Australia and my own dreamscapes. I do not draw directly from the environment or pictures, I like to let my imagination guide me. I do not aim for perfection, more so reflection of my experience. My direction with my art is to create a sense of environmental turbulence executed with use of rhythmic lines, tonal value and positive and negative spacing, in which the symbolic tree has been given monumental value.
